Coaching Basketball Is Not Always Fun And Games
I wound up volunteering to coach basketball, a game I new nearly nothing about. Shortly after I wound up with the job, a parent approached me and asked what sort of coaching style I was going to use. After I managed to clear up the blank look on my face and stammer out some lame answer, I drove quickly to the privacy of my own home to avoid any more questions, and thus, not let my inexperience be known, for I knew after that question that I was in way over my head.

At the time I was probably more suited to coach football, but basketball was what I was dealt. A buddy of mine who had played basketball in high school told me that his coach had used a hands-on coaching style. The coach played with the athletes, showing them the different techniques to use, and what situation to use them in, etc…However, he also pointed out that coaching basketball is more than just playing basketball with the kids like his coach did, but coaching is also about teaching fundamental skills that the players will use for life, as well as team work.

Feeling even more hopeless and confused after this conversation I set out to do heavy research on the topic of coaching basketball. I immediately realized that a large list of references existed to help me, which gave me a great feeling of relief. I had never thought of such concepts as team play, sportsmanship and sharing in regards to coaching sports before, but from my reading I began to get familiar with the topics and ideas. I quickly learned that basketball was about more than just putting a ball through a hoop.

As part of my research I began reading articles that focused on building skills and confidence level in young athletes while coaching. I did my best to absorb everything, but still felt that I might be a little out of my element coaching a basketball team. I had to constantly reassure myself that I could do it. The whole experience ultimately taught me that before you can coach other people you must be able to coach yourself, but I’m getting ahead of myself.

I’ve been coaching for six weeks now. I feel I’ve done a fair job of helping my players build skills and confidence levels they can use on the court and in the real world. This experience has taught me much about myself and about coaching. In regards to coaching, I have learned that it is not all fun and games, but a huge responsibility; however, I think I’ve prepared myself for the challenge. After all, my team is 5 and 1.

While coaching a team might seem a very attractive job to many a sports fan, it is not easy. I only coach at the Junior High level and it’s exhausting and stressful. I can’t imagine what it is like at the professional level, and I don’t want to. If you are interested in being a coach, make sure and give it some serious thought.

University Of Maryland Basketball Tickets - Is Another Title Run At Hand?
University of Maryland basketball tickets were “the” tickets to have at the beginning of the 21st Century, as the Terrapins were truly a part of the elite of college basketball. They hit their apex in 2002 when they won the national championship, and it appeared that Coach Gary Williams had the program prepared to dominate into the foreseeable future. However, something happened on the Terrapins’ way to a dynasty, and they have not even qualified for the last two NCAA Tournaments.

Even though he’s a Maryland alum, Williams understands that he’s “on the clock,” and needs to get something done with his program before time runs out. Maryland has won 19 games in each of the past two years, but it’s all about the postseason in Maryland and in the ACC, and below we’ll take a look to see what we should expect from Maryland this season.

New Players

Maryland needed an influx of talent, as early entries into the NBA and other off-the-court problems have plagued the Terrapins over the past two seasons. They’ve gotten just that, and two new point guards will not only potentially restore the Williams offense to its intended form, but will also allow Maryland’s best player, D.J. Strawberry, to move back to his more natural position on the wing.

Maryland also has a freshman at the small forward spot who can fill it up, and 6-6 freshman Landon Milbourne was one of the top recruits in the country last year. Milbourne is a scorer, and he will be a great compliment to Strawberry. Regardless of records, Milbourne and Strawberry alone will be worth the price of any University of Maryland basketball tickets.

Coaching Stability

One of the more underrated aspects of college basketball is the coaching, particularly among the unknown assistants. Due to Maryland’s recent success, the Terrapins have lost seven assistant coaches in recent years, and that has hurt both the on-court coaching and the recruiting to an extent. Williams has to be hoping that one of the benefits of two “off” years is that his staff won’t continue to be raided, as his team is getting younger and will need that stability to develop all that talent.

Williams himself certainly isn’t planning on going anywhere, as he always wanted to coach at his alma mater. He would have to be dragged away from campus with the Maryland National Guard, so no one needs to worry about him becoming tempted by the NBA or any other college job. That’s a huge message to be able to send when recruiting, and Williams’ recruiting results seem to signify that players believe in Williams and his system.

Outlook

Maryland has had to tough years, by Maryland’s standards. Many schools would love back-to-back 19-win seasons, but Maryland needs to step it up this year. It seems that the Terrapins have a roster now that’s more conducive to Williams’ style, and they seem to be building stability that’s sorely needed in college athletics.

Maryland may play in the brutal ACC, but look for them to make a return trip to the NCAA Tournament. Not to mention, University of Maryland basketball tickets will always provide a high-flying show.

Basketball Drills Secrets Of The Zone
Writer Glen C. Brown author of `Secrets Of The Zone Press` writes from this extraordinary coaching and basketball skilled book.
`In the writing of a text on a coaching system for a major competitive sport, the author is immediately under suspicion that he has withheld his own `secret formula` for success.
So a coach, player or basketball fan who takes a serious interest in the game that was originated and has been perfected in the United States may greet this volume with some trepidation.
Such was my first reaction when asked by Glenn Brown to write an introduction to this volume on the art of basketball coaching.
This man has been a prep and college player, head coach of an outstanding U. S. Army team, coach at an Illinois high school of more than 2,000, coach at an Indiana high school with the largest high school field house in the world that seats 10,000. He is now a successful college coach and is far from leaving his chosen profession any time soon.
Likewise, he hasn`t changed his system or dropped it so he is willing to reveal the system he has been using all this time.
Here, the man who has compiled a 229-115 all-time basketball record as a coach of every age and type of player, has `bared` his basketball soul.
Most books of this type are highly technical, but Brown has, through careful diagrams and simple explanations, treated each phase of the game with simplicity.`

And what a book it is! Whether you are a coach, player or simply interested in basketball, this book is an absolute must have! There is not another more detailed script of game in any book on the planet! It is foundational, it is creative and genius! Yes, basketball players must be creative and genius in using feet, hands and brains! Please, don`t even question it! This is the manual you won`t want to share because it is so good that you want to keep it secret! Coaches, teachers, students, players and basketball lovers must get this book in their hands or downloaded onto their computers. Bar none, this book is diagramed, detailed and contains the works, study and experience that will `land you in the basketball zone`. You will feel like that 3-pointer ball that has just been `swished` and made by your favorite team in the last minute of the game.
If that isn`t exciting enough, then think of your `child` or `grandchild` receiving the book and excelling in an all time favorite sport! I love basketball, both playing and watching, but I especially enjoy learning about it and this book is a golden treasure for anyone to own! This book contains actual drills, in written words and diagrams and is easy to understand. I would not even hesitate, I would Jump up and grab this `basketball drill secret zone book`. You will be exceedingly ecstatic and on the court! I would recommend this book to my children, my children`s children and their children beyond! It`s a timelessly classic book that is universally effective!
Hoops anyone? `Got Game?`
You will now! Just get your hands on this incredible `Basketball Zone Book` and `Look out courts!`
The ball is about to hit the backstop! … Dunk!

Basketball Hoop Dreams Hoopla
Basketball bears a distant resemblance to it’s early days, when the basketball net wasn’t a net at all but a peach basket. Apparently James Naismith the inventor of basketball, had a keen intuition for sports, but not quite so keen on physics. The obvious problem with the impromptu basketball net, was that there was no hole in the bottom for the basket ball to fall through. I sure we’ve all seen the commercial where one of the players has to climb up the ladder to retrieve the basketball after each score. The brilliant solution by Mr Naismith, was of course to cut a hole in the bottom of the basket. Seems like an obvious solution to those of us versed in the modern game of basketball, but wait the punch line is yet to come. The hole they cut, wasn’t big enough for the basketball to fall through. It was however, big enough for a person standing on the floor to poke a broom handle through and push the basketball ball back up through the top. Funny how the obvious is not always so obvious to those at the time. In spite of it’s somewhat comical beginnings, basketball has truly evolved to one of the premier sporting events in the world. I bet James would be thrilled to see his little game today. I hope.

Dusting Jack

Basketball had quite a few funny quirks along the road to success. One of the early interesting rules would have pretty hilarious consequences today. In today’s game of basketball, when a ball goes out of bounds, the last player to touch the basketball ball, is ruled to have been responsible for putting the ball out of play, and therefor his/her team loses possession of the ball. Things were a little different with the original basket rules. In the original game of basketball, the first player to retrieve a ball that had gone out of bounds, earned possession of the ball for his team. I suppose that makes sense when your first playing the game in a gymnasium, with one gym teacher, who doesn’t want to have to retrieve every out of bounds ball. Why don’t just let the players retrieve the basket balls. Ha! Could you imagine the melee that would occur in today’s professional games, if that was the rule. I can just see Kobe Bryant climbing over Jack Nicholson, spilling his drink, knocking his glasses all cock-eyed in a furiously desperate attempt to grab the loose ball before his opponent. Comical . . . yes. Hilarious . . . yes. Entertaining . . . yes. Likely to be adopted by the NBA . . . not frigging likely. We can always dream though.

Entertainment As Sport

Basketball certainly has to be one of the more successful forms of sports entertainment today. From all the pre-game theatrical dramatics (Ala the Micheal Jordan era Chicago Bulls) to the bad boys that seem to be prevalent in any sport, but especially basketball. In spite of the fact that most basketball games are decided in the last few minutes of play, it is truly an exciting game to watch and play. Especially if you get the opportunity to view a basketball game live. Highly recommended. Those guys make the television guys look like their moving in slow motion.

Professional Basketball History
The first official basketball history would be at YMCA in Trenton, New Jersey, in 1896. It was the fallout of a dispute between members of the YMCA team and a YMCA official, resulting in a professional team, playing for money. Two years later, the National Basketball League was founded. In the 20th century, the top professional teams were the Buffalo Germans and the Original Celtics. The first major national professional league was the American Basketball League. In the 30s, the most successful teams were the New York Renaissance and Harlem Globetrotters. Both of these teams consisted of all-black players.

In the 40s, the game was monopolized by the Minneapolis Lakers, led by George Mikan and coached by John Kundla. This team won 5 NBA championships in the decade. Come the 50s, guard Bob Cousy and forward Bob Pettit were celebrated players. From 1957 to 1969, the Celtics won 11 NBA titles, 6 of them led by Bill Russell. From 1963 to 1975, the UCLA team won ten national championships. Star players during this period were center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, center Bill Walton, guard Gail Goodrich, forward Jamaal Wilkes, and forward Marques Johnson. Abdul-Jabbar made history by becoming the leading scorer with 38,387 points in his career.

In the 80s, basketball was dominated by the Detroit Pistons with Isiah Thomas and Dennis Rodman. And most recently, Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls are the highlights of the 90s, with the Bulls winning 6 NBA titles. Star players in this period were Hakeem Olajuwon, Scottie Pippen, Charles Barkley, David Robinson, Karl Malone, John Stockton, and Shaquille O’Neal. And the women star players were Cynthia Cooper, Sheryl Swoopes, Teresa Edwards, Lisa Leslie, and Jennifer Azzi.

Women basketball has also undergone some changes throughout the years. In 1966, dribbling was legalized in play. 3 years later, a 5-player full court format was introduced. In 1984, women officials (coaches, players) were admitted in the basketball hall-of-fame. Some of these famous women who obtained recognition for their skills and expertise were Ann Meyers, Carol Blazejowski, Cheryl Miller; Anne Donovan and Nancy Lieberman-Cline.

The NBA’s rival was the American Basketball Association (ABA) and its trademark red, white, and blue basketballs. The best player for ABA was Julius Erving. ABA was dissolved in 1976.The passing of years have seen the rise and fall of many teams and players. Without a doubt, all the players strive to do their best to be immortalized as the champions of the decade.

Fantasy Basketball League Is Worth Learning
There is nothing that can be more exciting than being a member of a fantasy basketball league. It allows you to be the manager and owner of your own team. You can draft players, trade players or bench players, very much like professional managers and owners do in real life. You even have a commissioner who makes sure that the league is played according to rules, and no one who is part of the league cheats. No wonder the fantasy league has become an addiction.

Millions of Americans join fantasy leagues set up by different organizations before the season starts. These leagues operate very much like professional basketball leagues. You are first required to register your team. Generally, a league has 12 teams though this is not a fixed rule. Some leagues have as many as 20 teams. The roster size of teams varies from league to league though generally this number is around 14. However, only nine players are allowed to start every week. The remaining five are in reserve, and their points are not counted.

The most exciting day is the draft day. Each team is allowed to pick its stock of players, based on their performance. This allows teams to pick up several superstars in different positions. However, the draft rules make sure that each team manager in a league has a fair chance, and that no one individual walks away with the best players.

There are two points system that are followed in deciding the winner. These are Head-to-Head and the Rotisserie. In the Head-to-Head league each team enters the points that its players have scored against a rival league team during that week. These include points, rebounds, assists, blocks and steals. The team that gets more points, based on the way its players have performed on the court, wins that week.

In the Rotisserie League, the player’s statistics are tallied up against the entire league. Before each game you are required to prepare your line ups. This is where your skill and knowledge of the game is tested. You may have superstars on your team but if you do not play them in the right position you may not derive the right benefit.

Either way, the success of your team depends on how the players you have chosen are performing. Of course, you have the right to trade off the players who are not performing well, or get a rookie who has taken the tournament by storm. The trade off is done in a very just manner, and is supervised by your league commissioner. The team that tops the fantasy league walks away with the jackpot.

Duke Basketball Tickets - Are We Seeing A Swoon Or A Permanent Downturn?
Duke basketball tickets have long been some of the most difficult basketball tickets to find in the United States. The program has been almost a gold standard by which all other programs are measured, and that includes not only their on-court success but also their sterling reputation as student athletes. No one questions the fact that Duke runs a clean and successful program under the legendary stewardship of Mike Krzyzewski.

However, the 2006-07 season has been a disappointment for the Blue Devils, and that was never more apparent than in their recent loss to arch-rival North Carolina. The Blue Devils played extremely hard and extremely well, but still could not overcome the talent and ability of the Tar Heels. Below we’ll examine whether this season is an indication of things to come or merely a minor blip on their radar by examining a few specific issues.

Youth

Although youth is becoming somewhat of an antiquated problem in college basketball as more and more stars leave early for the NBA, Duke is an extremely young team. The Blue Devils’ rotation features only one junior and no seniors who average more than one minute in playing time per game, and none of their starters are averaging more than 14 points per game. Simply put, the Blue Devils are still learning how to win, and that can only come with time.

Athleticism

Duke may not only lack experience, but several experts have noted the Blue Devils’ overall lack of pure athleticism on the floor at any given time. This was on display in a prevalent way against North Carolina, as Duke was on fire early and stormed to a big lead. However, they simply could not hold on as the Tar Heels sent waves of athletes to the hoop and attacked the floor and Duke’s defense mercilessly. Duke just could not handle that pressure on either end of the floor, and what looked to be a potential upset wound up being an extremely bitter loss, leaving those lucky enough to score Duke basketball tickets for this classic rivalry game disappointed.

Luckily, Duke has a couple of factors working in its favor. First, their biggest “star” is their coach, and he’s taken under-talented teams to overachieving levels several times in the past, and there isn’t any doubt that he can do so again. Secondly, Duke does still sit with a record of 18-6, which means that barring a total collapse, they’ll still be able to get into the NCAA Tournament, where anything can happen in a single-elimination format.

Overall, Duke has had a few tough years during Krzyzewski’s time in Durham, and they’ve always bounced back. Basically, Duke basketball tickets are still worth the effort to obtain, as this is a program that won’t stay down for long.

Alabama Basketball Tickets - Can The Tide Keep Their Ncaa Streak Alive?
Alabama basketball tickets have been in demand recently, even though the overall sports scene in Tuscaloosa has been dominated by a certain football coach being hired amidst much fanfare. Even though the national spotlight has been on the gridiron, the Crimson Tide have been making an intense push to get back to the NCAA Tournament. Although Alabama is currently ranked in the polls, their spot in the “Big Dance” is not guaranteed at this point. Below we’ll take a look at Alabama’s qualifications to determine whether or not they’ll be dancing next month.

Schedule

Alabama has the advantage of playing in one of the power conferences on the college basketball landscape, and they currently sit atop the standings in the SEC West. However, that can be somewhat deceiving, as Arkansas and LSU, two perennial contenders in the conference, are having somewhat disappointing seasons. Not to mention, a 6-6 conference record is not going to impress the selection committee.

However, the Crimson Tide have played a strong schedule overall, with quality wins over the likes of Iowa, Xavier, North Carolina State and Oklahoma, and they recently took Florida to the wire before losing a tough game in Gainesville. Even if the Crimson Tide aren’t selected for the tournament, it’s been a good year to have Alabama basketball tickets.

Recent Trends

One of the overlooked aspects of the selection process for the NCAA Tournament is how a team has played in recent games. This is a factor that as of now does not appear to work in Alabama’s favor. They are only 5-5 in their last 10 games, and that includes losses to a struggling Auburn team and Vanderbilt. The Vanderbilt loss doesn’t look too bad now, however, given that the Commodores recently dominated Florida on their home floor, and Vanderbilt is always a tough place to play.

Outlook

Overall, Alabama has every opportunity to get themselves into the tournament. They have games remaining against Tennessee, Auburn and the two schools in Mississippi, and there’s also the SEC Tournament. If Alabama can get themselves into a mode where they finish strong, their final resume could look quite good, especially if that resume includes 20 wins, a national ranking, an SEC West title and a deep run in the SEC Tournament.

If all these things happen, and it’s somewhat likely that they will, Alabama’s streak of five consecutive appearances in the NCAA Tournament will be extended, and fans with Alabama basketball tickets will have a potential championship team to watch.

Big Names In Basketball
There are many things that people must do, despite what is currently going on in their personal life. The person may be dealing with divorce, illness, or even the death of a family member, yet they still have to go to work or take care of children. There is a former NBA player that most fans consider to be the best player ever in professional basketball. The former player’s name is Michael Jordan, and he was excellent on offense and defense. Michael Jordan played for the Chicago Bulls, and he helped the Bulls to win six titles.

Unfortunately, despite his talent, things weren’t always great for Michael Jordan. Along with fame and fortune comes heartbreak, just like for everyone else. In 1995, Michael and the Bulls played the season of a lifetime, and were headed to the playoffs once again. But in the middle of everything, something happened that no one had ever expected. Michael Jordan’s dad was shot and killed in his home in North Carolina. Of course this was devastating for Jordan, and he even felt that he couldn’t go on and participate in the playoffs. Miraculously, just when Michael had just about given up, he heard a voice from his father, telling him that he was still with him, no matter what. This made Michael break down in tears, ultimately deciding to go out and win the championship for his dad—and win the championship, he did.

Many of us think that we have problems in our lives that cause us to be unable to go on, but just imagine what NBA players must go through. They have to quickly get themselves together, no matter what happens in their personal

The Final Shot
Many times in the NBA, the game is so close that it might go into overtime, or even come down to the final shot. When many people go to professional basketball games, the game is so boring that it’s what’s referred to as a blowout. This is when one team will be in the lead by numerous points, causing many to begin leaving the game, in disappointment and boredom. It’s not necessary for them to stay and see who’s going to win, because there will be no way for the losing team to catch up in the amount of time that is left. Why sit there and continue to watch their favorite team get the demolished?

On the other hand, there are the games that are real nail-biters. Several things can happen to make an NBA game especially exciting, but there is one that happens quite often. It’s when the score is really close, only a few points apart, yet it’s nearly over. This type of game will keep the crowd in the arena to watch the entire game, and when the game goes into overtime, this is when the crowd really gets into it. They will be on the edge of their seats, in anticipation of which team will end up winning. This is especially true if fans are watching their favorite pro basketball team play on their home court. This will usually cause the fan to remain until the bitter end, whether their team wins or loses. The excitement is what causes them to stay, even if it looks the opposing team may win.

The most exciting type of NBA game to watch is when there only a few moments remaining and the team is down by one point and the other team tries to prevent them from scoring. A lot of times, they do keep them from scoring, but sometimes they don’t, and to a lot of teams, this is very disheartening, to lose a game on a last second shot.

Professional basketball can be boring at times, but most of the time, it’s a very fun sport, especially when exciting surprises occur. Most true fans love all NBA games, and will support their favorite team, no matter what. This means that if their team is behind in a great deal of points and the game is nearly over, this type of person will stay until the game is over, just to show their support.

Basketball Sports Apparel For Kids
In the years that a baby is born, the parents will already raise the kid to do certain things. This includes toilet training, cleaning up after playing and enjoying certain sports that are shown on television.

There will come a time that the kid will not only want to watch but also learn to play that sport. There are clinics that can teach these skills but the first thing the parents must get is the right sports apparel for the kid.

For basketball, the player will need the proper clothing and the right footwear.

The clothing is easy because this is only getting a top and a pair of shorts. Those without sleeves are much better since this allows better movement when dribbling the ball or taking those shots.

The fabric should also be able to absorb sweat so that it isn’t that heavy when the player is on the move.

The next is shoes. The person will surely notice that there are a lot of brands on the display shelves in the store. The customer can choose from New Balance, Nike and Reebok among others that will do well in the basketball court.

The other accessories that are minor are a good pair of socks. This will help the person absorb the impact of jumping into the air and landing back on the ground.

Some people are not contented with the plain colored shirt that is available in the store. In order to be like the stars, it helps to dress like the stars. Some sporting goods store such as City Sports or Footlocker may have this but if the price is a bit expensive, then its time to look in other places.

There could be an outlet store selling the same or similar item. This could be a long drive but the customer can probably get two or three for the price of one in a regular establishment.

Another place is the Internet. The individual can also check out some online stores that are known to sell these at discounted prices. It is best to get right measurements first since it will be hard to change should this not fit.

Kids can have more fun in learning and playing a sport by wearing the right apparel. This will help prevent injuries and perfect the skills of the individual that could help make this person a star in high school, college or even in the professional league.

The Legacy Of Michael Jordan
Although he has been retired for several years now, Michael Jordan is still widely regarded as the greatest basketball player to ever play the game. His influence was felt not only in the way the game was played, but also in how it was perceived around the world. Ultimately, his excellence at his sport was instrumental in catapulting the popularity of basketball and the National Basketball Association all over the world during the eighties and nineties. Beyond all this, Jordan was also a marketing force and was hands-down the most successfully marketed athlete of his generation and, possibly, all time. In 1999, Jordan was named by ESPN as “the greatest athlete of the 20th century.”

Jordan retired from the NBA after 15 seasons, during which he established a number of prestigious records. His 30.12 points per game average is the highest ever in NBA history. He also won six NBA titles with the Chicago Bulls and was the MVP of the NBA Finals every time they claimed the championship. In addition, Jordan has been the NBA’s leading scorer for 10 straight seasons and was the league’s Most Valuable Player five times. He was also selected to the All-NBA First Team 10 times, the All-Defensive First Team nine times aside from leading the NBA in steals in three years. The Associated Press also ranked him as second only to Babe Ruth as top athlete of the century.

Jordan’s wizardry on the basketball court was evident from the very first time he stepped onto an NBA court as a rookie in 1985. He unveiled the full package – a dazzling array of dunks, ferocious defense and the amazing ability to score any time he wanted to. His leaping ability was off the charts and quickly earned him such colorful nicknames as “Air Jordan” and “His Airness.” In one playoffs game against the Boston Celtics in 1986, Jordan scored a record 63 points, which prompted the league’s then-reigning MVP Larry Bird to proclaim that he was “God disguised as Michael Jordan.”

The media has portrayed a number of players as “the next Michael Jordan” upon entering the NBA, including such renowned hoopsters as Grant Hill, Kobe Bryant, Tracy McGrady and Vince Carter, who have all fallen short of their lofty billing. The latest to earn the sobriquet are LeBron James and Dwyane Wade, but they have a long way to go before they can earn the right to be called the next Jordan.

They have to quickly get themselves together, no matter what happens in their personal lives that affects them in a major way. They have fans and team member who are counting on them, and don’t want to be let down. One thing that people need to realize, though, is that just because they are professional basketball players, doesn’t mean that they aren’t human. NBA players are people, too, and they have feelings and emotions, just like everyone else, and should be allowed an adequate amount of time to mourn the death of a loved one.

Many times in the NBA, the game is so close that it might go into overtime, or even come down to the final shot. Several things can happen to make an NBA game especially exciting, but there is one that happens quite often. It’s when the score is really close, only a few points apart, yet it’s nearly over.

Going into the 2006/07 season, the New Jersey Nets are one of the biggest question marks in the NBA. While they have had enough talent to make the playoffs consistently for a good while, they have never been able to get over the hump and win a championship.

The good news for the Nets is that they reside in one of the weakest divisions in the NBA. None of the other teams in the Atlantic division pose a serious threat to the Nets. Aside from that, however, the Nets are composed of three star players and one or two nice role players. Jason Kidd is no longer the best point guard in the league, as surgeries and age have slowed him. He still, however, is able to get take good care of the ball while setting up his talented teammates.

The Nets best players are high-flyers Richard Jefferson and Vince Carter. Carter has long been one of the most talented players in the NBA, and is a threat to explode for a large amount of points any game during the season. His health issues have been a non-factor with the Nets, as he has only missed 8 games in the last two seasons. Richard Jefferson is another talented wing player who does not have as much experience in the NBA as Carter does. He should average around twenty points a game as usual.

In the post for the Nets are Nenad Kristic and Jason Collins. Kristic is a talented young center who had Nets personnel raving by the end of last season. He is expected to improve further and to help solidify a shaky center position for the Nets. Collins is another young post player who has been disappointing through his first five seasons in the league. His career points average of 5.3 is just not getting the job done nor is his career rebounds average of 4.9. New Jersey should hope for at least a fifty percent improvement in both of those categories from Collins.

Aside from their starting five, the Nets really do not have much depth to rely on. Clifford Robinson is a player who has been in the league forever, but is too old and unreliable to depend on as a backup. Eddie House is a good sparkplug off the bench, but there is a reason why he has bounced from team to team over the past few seasons.

The New Jersey Nets have enough talent to win a weak division with their starting five rotation, but without any depth they will fall short again of a title run.

Indiana Pacers 2006-07 Preview
One of the most disappointing teams for the past few seasons, the Indiana Pacers have been on a steady decline ever since their former small forward Ron Artest charged into the stands to attack Pistons fans. After losing his replacement, Peja Stojakovic for almost nothing, they find themselves without championship caliber talent for the first time in half a decade.

The anchor for the Pacers is power-forward Jermaine O’Neal. Jermaine is one of the premier post players in the NBA and is by far the best player that the Pacers have. If they want to guarantee themselves a playoff berth, they need to ensure that O’Neal stays healthy and productive for all eighty-two games in the season. This is a high task for a player who has missed a total of 69 games in the past two seasons alone.

The Pacers hope to offset their loss at the small-forward position using two players. The first is last years first round pick of Danny Granger. Granger is a talented player who showed flashes of brilliance in limited playing time last season. Ahead of him on the rotation is a familiar face in Al Harrington. Harrington was traded back to the Pacers after a very productive season with the Atlanta Hawks. If he can continue his improved players, Indiana should have a formidable post presence game-in and game-out.

Starting at the guard positions are Stephen Jackson and Jamaal Tinsley. Tinsley is one of the better point guards in the league when he is able to stay healthy. The problem is that he just can’t stay healthy. Jamaal has missed at least 30 games for the past three seasons. Stephen Jackson is a pretty good shooting guard who sometimes makes bad decisions. His 16-18 points per game adds a much-needed scoring threat from the guard position.

On the bench for the Pacers are newly acquired Marquis Daniels and young players such as Sarunas Jasikevicius and David Harrison. Daniels was an integral member of the Mavericks bench last season and should be a good sixth or seventh man for the Pacers. Harrison and Sarunas were slightly disappointing last season but have the potential to pan out nicely for the Pacers. Sarunas in particular is a deep three-point threat who could add another dimension to the Pacers.

Rick Carlisle has his hands full with the Pacers once again, but he shouldn’t find it a problem to get to the playoffs once again. Winning a playoff series or more, however, is an entirely different story.

Texas A&m Aggies Basketball Tickets - What’s Going On In College Station?
By Jay Nault
For many years, Texas A&M Aggies basketball tickets have been nothing more than an afterthought in College Station. Texas A&M was always a football school, and little else mattered much at all. However, the culture in the area is beginning to turn, and the Aggies are providing fans plenty of reasons to go to games against their Big 12 rivals. As hard as it is to believe, local fans are realistically dreaming of a run to the Final Four, and below we’ll look at a few reasons why that’s the case.

Coaching

Simply put, Billy Gillispie is a coaching star. He was hired to run the program at Texas A&M in 2004, and the team hadn’t had a winning season since 1994 before he arrived. To make matters worse, the Aggies were coming off a dismal season in which they posted a record of 7-21 under previous coach Melvin Watkins.

Gillespie immediately restored respect to the program, winning 21 games in his first season and advancing to the quarterfinals of the NIT, which was the first postseason appearance by the Aggies in more than a decade. Gillispie also drummed up interest in Texas A&M Aggies basketball tickets by refusing to make the excuses that had long existed under previous regimes, namely that Texas A&M was a “football school,” that they “didn’t have the support from the administration” and many other issues that he quickly dismissed.

Talent

Gillispie isn’t just a leader and a tremendous game coach, but he can recruit as well. He was one of the first coaches in Aggie Land to aggressively pursue top-flight recruits, and that pursuit paid off several times. He added talented current players such as Joseph Jones, Josh Carter and Donald Sloan, and each of these players turned down “bigger” programs to come and play in College Station.

Gillispie is building a pipeline for recruiting in Texas and beyond, and that’s making the folks in Austin and Lubbock very nervous indeed. The more Texas A&M wins, the more credibility Gillispie and his program gain, and the snowball effect will take over from there.

What it all Means

This season is not a one-year wonder. The Aggies have posted three consecutive 20-win seasons, and they’re currently ranked in the Top Ten in both major college basketball polls. Their recruiting for next year looks very promising, and their young team is still getting better. What this all means is that folks better get their Texas A&M Aggies basketball tickets now, as they’ll become even harder to find in the very near future.

Ucla Basketball Tickets - Is A Sleeping Giant Awakening?
UCLA basketball tickets have long been special for many, many reasons. When you think of sports dynasties, you think of Lombardi’s Packers, Auerbach’s Celtics, the Yankees of several eras and the Montreal Canadiens. Wooden’s Bruins can stand up to every one of them and then some. Listing all of the legendary players of UCLA lore would be too numerous for this forum, but rest assured that an entire wing of the Hall of Fame could be filled with UCLA alumni.

However, in recent decades, the Bruins, compared to the almost unattainable standard history had set, was not achieving at their historic levels. They did break through for an NCAA title in 1995, but other than that, Westwood’s trophy case has not had any recent additions in recent times.

That could all be changing right before our eyes, as the 2007 Bruins are beginning to look like the great Bruin teams of old. They advanced all the way to the NCAA Final last year before losing a tough game to Florida, and so far this season, it looks as though they haven’t missed a beat. There are reasons for this resurgence, and we’ll examine a couple of them below.

Ben Howland

When Howland took over at UCLA in 2003, the Bruins had officially fallen on hard times. They had become one of those teams that always seemed to recruit well, but they were at best a hit-or-miss bubble team for the NCAA Tournament. UCLA basketball tickets were actually quite easy to find for most games, and the Bruin faithful were down in the dumps.

Howland came aboard and instilled several things that the program had been missing. The first element was discipline. Howland’s teams never give a game away, and that was a hallmark of his teams at Pittsburgh before he came to Westwood. He also put together a roster that actually played hard-nosed defense, which was not something UCLA had been known for in recent years. There were even whispers that UCLA was “soft,” and that was unacceptable for everyone involved with the program.

The Right Kind of Talent

Under Howland, the program stopped simply chasing all the five-star recruits it could gather and began to build a team that together would become a unit that covered all the moving parts a successful squad needs. They added scoring and athleticism, of course, but they also added defense, rebounding, guards that could dribble and distribute, and several role players who take care of all the “little” things that win games in the end but may not show up on the stat sheet.

What it All Means

What this all means is that with the talent, consistency and stability that once again exists at UCLA, the team will be able to sell its own tradition and history to recruits, and it’s beginning to look like every year should be one when UCLA should contend for the Final Four. The fans in Westwood wouldn’t expect anything less, and UCLA basketball tickets are once again nearly impossible to find.

By Stacey Day
There are coaches in each and every type of sport out there, and many of them are good at what they do. Many of these coaches have won a lot of games, and one of them is Dean Smith. He has coached for the North Carolina Tar heels for thirty-two years, and has won 869 games in his lustrous career. Dean Smith took his teams to NCAA playoffs for seventy-seven simultaneous years, and the final four as well. He also scored several sweet sixteen appearances.

Dean Smith has coached many college basketball players during his career: James Worthy, Michael Jordan, Sam Perkins, and the list goes on and on. Many people also say that Dean Smith is a very nice person, outside basketball.

Coach Smith had won more games than Adolph Ruff, another NCAA basketball coach. Ruff has won 866 games while he coached, and like it was stated earlier, Smith has won 869.There are no coaches that have won more games, although Bob Knight won 1869, the same amount as Dean Smith. Bob Knight will probably be the coach who wins the most games ever. Many people do not like Bob Knight, but he is a pretty good coach. He has never had any problems recruiting players, so in other words, he does things the right way. He also believes in discipline as well, which is why people keep sending their sons to the school where Bob Knight currently coaches. Bob Knight, Dean Smith, and Adolph Ruff are the best NCAA basketball coaches that there ever were.

Many people think that being a college basketball coach is easier than being a player, but that is not necessarily true. Coaches are under a great deal of pressure to recruit good players, train them well, as well as to win as many games as possible. If their team loses a game for some reason, it reflects, not only on the team, but on the coach as well. So as people can see, things aren’t always peaches and cream for coaches. They must work just as hard, or even harder than the players do. They don’t simply stand around and tell their players what to do—there is a lot that a coach is responsible for taking care of.

Kentucky basketball tickets have been cherished for generations in the Bluegrass State, and the team has long been rewarding its rabid fan base with victories in bushels. The Wildcats have won more Division I basketball games than any other school in the United States, and everything about Rupp Arena reeks of tradition and legendary figures.

However, the team, at least by Kentucky’s nearly unmatched standards, has struggled in recent years, and the heat is being turned up on the program and Coach Tubby Smith. A look at the overall health of Kentucky basketball should tell us if fans can expect the team to regain its expected form, or if these expectations are simply unrealistic.

Historical Context

Kentucky is considered by some, most of those being Kentucky fans, to be the most successful college basketball program of all time. The Wildcats have won nearly 2,000 games overall and seven NCAA championships as of this writing. The team has had a slew of All Americans and Hall of Fame coaches, and many in the area consider Kentucky to be the gold standard by which all over programs are measured.

Although there’s no way to quantitatively decide who really is the “best” program ever, and fans of North Carolina, Duke and UCLA would all have strong opinions of their own on the subject, the fact remains that expectations in Lexington are always sky-high. Kentucky basketball tickets are always used with the expectation of watching a team that should contend for the national title that season, and that never changes.

Current State
Coach Tubby Smith was a bit of a controversial hire when he came to Lexington, but he had early success that included a national championship in his first season in 1998. However, even that didn’t quell critics who claimed he won the title with someone else’s players. The nucleus of the 1998 team was recruited by former coach Rick Pittino, a revered figure in the state.

Since then, statistics and results have shown that Kentucky hasn’t lived up to its tradition. The team hasn’t returned to the Final Four since that year, and if they don’t qualify this season, it’ll mark the longest Final Four “drought” in program history. This fact above all others is what’s adding volume to the fans’ complaints.

Proposed reasons for this “slump” are many in number. Kentucky’s recent recruiting classes have been seen by many as not being up to par with traditional recruiting hauls, and even opposing coaches have noted a drop off in Kentucky’s overall talent level. Smith’s style of play is also turning fans off, as his style is a departure from the run-and-gun teams of the mid-1990’s that had so much success. Smith prides himself on defense and a deliberate pace, and that’d be fine if it resulted in championships every year, but it hasn’t, so by logical result, the style is criticized.

Outlook

This is a critical season for Kentucky and Smith. The program in many ways is a victim of its own success, as every year the bar is set extremely high, but this year carries a different mandate - restore “pride” to UK basketball or else. This “pride” will only be restored with a run towards the SEC title and the Final Four. If Kentucky doesn’t make it that far in the spring, the cries and howls will only grow louder, and Smith’s position will only become more tenuous.

Regardless of how it all plays out, Kentucky basketball tickets will provide fans with an interesting show this season for several reasons, as things are sure to be interesting in Lexington over the winter.
