Buying An Indoor Basketball Hoop
By Brian Bailey
When deciding on an indoor basketball hoop you first have to decide where it is going to be installed. If the hoop will be installed on the wall it should be one that has an opaque backboard. Transparent blackboards tend to merge with the way which causes problems for the players. Width of the backboard is also a consideration. With a wider backboard it helps to allow the players to hit a wider array of bank shots.
You should also pay attention to the way the hoop is attached to the backboard. Hoops can be attached with a single piece of metal or they can have a spring-loaded break away piece. The breakaway is mostly preferred by players who want to dunk or hang on the rim.
Indoor hoops should be installed where a court can be painted. If the space is too small to paint a full court then a half- court or even a free throw line should be painted beneath the hoop. Having an indoor hoop without a throw line will be useless.
Most indoor hoops can be mounted to the center of the hall. Such fixtures provide more moving space for the basketball players who can run around the pole after dunking or scoring points. There is also less danger of the player crashing into a wall while throwing a ball on the run or leaping to score a point in a position that is close to the hoop.
Both in-ground hoops and portable hoops can be considered to mount an indoor hoop. The biggest problem with an in-ground hoop is that it is a permanent structure. The floor will have to be broken and plastered again if you need to remove the hoop or relocate it. On the other hand, a portable system can be moved when need and positions changed if need be. Clearly your decision will be based on your needs and how permanent a structure you need.
